Honda Leaving F1

Honda have today announced that, due to the economic downturn, they are no longer able to continue to participate in Formula 1 racing. Their president, Takeo Fukui, issued the following statement:
“We, Honda Motor Co. Ltd., have come to the conclusion that we will withdraw from all Formula 1 activities, making 2008 the last season of [...]

Interest Rates

John Swinney, the Finance Secretary at the Scottish Government, has welcomed the Bank of England’s decision to cut interest rates by one percentage point from 3 per cent to 2 per cent, the lowest level since 1951. He said that the cut would be good news for home owners and businesses across Scotland. He emphasised [...]

£9million for Affordable Housing

The Scottish Government have today announced a further £9million to finance a number of housing developments across Scotland.
Housing associations will be able to buy unsold stock from the private sector, increasing the availability of much needed affordable housing and helping the construction industry in these difficult times.

Waiting for a Winter Wonderland

For the last week the weathermen have been warning of an Artic Blast, freezing temperatures, snow, real winter weather.  I thought I was going to have to get the snowplough out to get out of the driveway, wearing at least three thermal vests and salopettes. I even planned a day of home baking and stew [...]

Yet another Wooly mammoth story

The saddest thing so far to come out of the recession is the news that Woolworths is likely to have to sell off its High Street stores for as little as £1. Once the stalwart of every town centre, the place to get absolutely anything and everything you needed; from tights to tatties, record albums [...]

People Power to make Future Power

Maybe I’m a bit naive but, if we are running out of power, we have a major recession looming and loads of people need jobs, wouldn’t it make sense to throw all these components together and get unemployed people to build new power stations throughout the UK?
If it was good enough for the USA after [...]

A New Age of Reason

With the release of unemployment figures for Scotland showing 124,000 out of work, an increase of 18% since June, and news that housing sales have dropped by 44% ,while  prices have dropped by 4%, I think it is safe to say that Scotland is teetering on the edge of the abyss. Recession is no longer [...]

One Man’s Poison….

Surprise, surprise – the old adage ‘one man’s meat is another man’s poison’ has never been truer. The world tumbles deeper into recession and Iceland slips off the economic map completely, but in the meantime a certain knight or two have taken advantage of the situation and are buying up the dregs of companies, ‘owned’ [...]

Counter Culture

In a rather bizarre act guaranteed to make a nation in debt even more depressed the USA have had a National Debt Counter Clock displaying the country’s debt since 1989.
When it was introduced the debt ran to 2.7 trillion dollars. In a reflection of the dire straits we are in, the clock counter this week [...]
